Become an active participant in information and better understand its challenges.

In a world where information circulates constantly and where social media strongly influence how events are perceived, understanding how information is produced has become an essential skill. The Media Club of the French Lycée of Vienna (LFV) offers students from 6th grade to the final year of high school the opportunity to become active participants in the creation of information themselves, in order to understand its mechanisms, challenges, and responsibilities.

Through the independent production of audio, video, and written content, students learn how to select, verify, structure, and share information, while also developing a critical perspective on the messages they encounter every day.

As part of the Webradio, students develop skills in public speaking, conducting interviews, hosting programs, and audio editing. The use of professional equipment also allows them to discover the world of radio professions in a concrete way. They also say:

In WebTV, we produce reports, filmed interviews, and programs such as L’Écho des Rencontres.

The club organizes meetings with well-known media professionals, such as Morgan Large, journalist and whistleblower, and Martin Wassermair, journalist, political editor-in-chief at DorfTV, and first secretary of Reporters Without Borders Austria.

The program is complemented by educational visits to studios such as Radio Orange 94.0 and DorfTV, where students gain first-hand insight into how a newsroom operates and explore the diversity of professional paths related to the media. They discover several roles:

We act as journalists, camera operators, presenters, editors, and directors, highlighting both the news of the school and our own interests.

With the students’ online newspaper Lirolycée, they take their first steps in journalistic writing. They learn how to structure their articles, verify their sources, and respect professional standards before sharing their productions with the entire school community.

Beyond technical and creative skills, the Media Club develops oral and written expression, self-confidence, teamwork, and critical thinking. It helps shape students who are able to understand how information is produced, analyze the media world with discernment, and become curious, informed, and responsible citizens.

The club therefore offers a unique opportunity to discover the world of media in an environment that is both practical, demanding, and pedagogically supported.
