Support and Guidance for Students

School Nursing Service

The School Nursing Service at the Lycée Français de Vienne is a vital part of the school, serving as a place for care, listening, prevention, and support for students throughout their academic journey.

State-registered nurses welcome students from Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, in a secure, confidential, and caring environment. Their daily presence ensures prompt and appropriate management of health situations, whether temporary or ongoing.

The nurses provide necessary care in cases of illness, discomfort, or accidents that occur within the school. They also monitor students with specific needs, particularly through Individualized Welcome Projects (PAI) for chronic illnesses or special medical conditions. They work closely with families, the educational team, and, when necessary, external healthcare partners to ensure optimal continuity and quality of care.

Beyond medical care, the nursing service plays a fundamental role in the well-being and balance of students. It serves as a privileged space for listening, where students can find a trusted adult to discuss concerns, worries, or the need for support or conversation, all while respecting confidentiality and individual expression.

The nurses also organize, coordinate, and participate in health and mental health education initiatives, helping students develop responsible behaviors, self-awareness, and attention to their physical and psychological well-being. In this capacity, they are fully committed to prevention efforts, particularly in combating bullying, discrimination, and all forms of violence, in collaboration with teaching and educational staff.

Through their expertise, availability, and attentiveness, the nurses fully contribute to the school’s educational mission, prioritizing the health, well-being, and fulfillment of students.

Combating Bullying and Discrimination

A positive school climate where the community feels safe and supported is a key priority of the Lycée Français de Vienne’s school project. As such, the LFV is committed to the pHARe program, an initiative by the French Ministry of National Education and the AEFE (Agency for French Education Abroad), aimed at preventing and raising awareness about situations that can lead to school bullying.

A dedicated "Listening and Respect Resource Team" is available daily for your children. If you encounter any difficulties, you can contact the team at: cuner@ylprrsenapnvf.ng

What Is Bullying?

Bullying is a form of invisible violence that can take the form of repeated physical aggression, often accompanied by verbal and psychological abuse (insults, mockery, etc.), intended to harm and hurt the target. With the rise of new technologies and social media, bullying has extended beyond the school environment, affecting young people through cyberbullying. Victims often feel isolated and helpless against this pervasive threat.

Bullying can be identified when:

  • There is a power imbalance between one or more aggressors and one or more victims.

  • The aggression is repetitive, with different forms of abuse occurring regularly over a long period.

  • There is a deliberate intent to harm the victim, with a lack of empathy from the aggressors.

Consequences of Bullying

The consequences of bullying in schools can be serious and far-reaching:

  • School dropout or absenteeism (studies show that fear of aggression accounts for 25% of absenteeism among middle and high school students).

  • Social withdrawal, anxiety, and depression.

  • Physical symptoms (headaches, stomachaches, illnesses).

  • Self-destructive behaviors, including suicidal thoughts.

Beyond the immediate effects, bullying can have long-term psychological and social impacts on children and adolescents, such as:

  • Feelings of shame and loss of self-esteem.

  • Difficulty forming relationships and avoidance behaviors.
If left unaddressed, these effects can persist into adulthood.

The Listening Space (Le Point Écoute)

Personal challenges, questions, moments of doubt, school-related stress, or simply the need to talk and be heard…

The Listening Space is a dedicated area focused on the well-being of students, open to all from CM2 (Grade 5) through high school. Its mission is to provide every student who needs it with a confidential, neutral, and supportive space where they can freely express themselves in complete trust, without fear of judgment. Here, students find attentive listeners, human support, and respectful guidance tailored to their pace and experiences.

Whether it’s to express distress, navigate a difficult period, put words to emotions, or simply avoid facing a situation alone, The Listening Space ensures that every student feels welcomed, understood, and supported.

Students can speak—in French or German—with:

  • A psychotherapist
(Permanence schedule posted on the door at the entrance to the infirmary)
To book an appointment, students simply mark an "X" in their preferred time slot and attend on the scheduled day.

  • A school counselor, available for individualized support and personalized discussions.
