Our geopolitical experts from 1ère in Berlin
Our students at the heart of European democracy
From 25 to 27 March 2026, nine of our Year 12 students, studying the History, Geography, Geopolitics and Political Science (HGGSP) specialism, represented the LFV at the Berlin Euro Parliament (BEP). This event, organised by the Lycée Français de Berlin, transformed classrooms into real parliamentary chambers for the duration of a simulation.
A dozen schools from eight different countries (Austria, Germany, Canada, Spain, Georgia, Greece, Poland and the United Kingdom) took part. In total, nearly 250 student MEPs debated in the project’s three official languages: French, English and German.
Supervised by their HGGSP teachers, Mr Philippe Merleau and Mr Gilles Carme, our students were able to enjoy a unique immersive experience.
In terms of learning, they learnt to master the complex workings of negotiation by seeking compromises within the various committees (health, environment, human rights, etc.).
On an emotional level, they experienced the adrenaline rush of public speaking and the satisfaction of seeing their ideas debated by peers from diverse backgrounds. Our nine ambassadors return with greater confidence in public speaking and lasting memories of multicultural exchanges.
